Happy New Year, Everyone!
I hope this message finds you in good spirits as we step into 2025 with hope and optimism. Reflecting on the past year, I feel an overwhelming sense of gratitude despite the many challenges we faced. As a Nigerian, I can confidently say that 2024 was far from easy. It tested our resilience and resolve in ways we never imagined. And let’s be honest—2025 might bring even tougher times. But here we are, fingers crossed and clinging to hope, ready to face whatever comes our way.
Like most people, I’ve set some New Year’s resolutions to guide me through the months ahead. If we’re being realistic, we know some resolutions are achievable while others might be more of a dream. But we write them down anyway because they give us a sense of purpose and direction.
Back in 2024, my primary New Year’s resolution was to find a job—whether online or offline. As a pharmacy student who’s somewhat financially struggling, I’m still dependent on my parents. Now, let’s admit it: being a Nigerian in this current economic climate is a pretty solid reason to remain financially reliant on one’s parents.
Luckily, I fulfilled part of that resolution last year. I found a job! It felt great to finally achieve something I set my mind to. Unfortunately, I lost that job not long after, which left me back at square one. But looking on the bright side, I kept my word—I did find a job. And for that, I’m proud.
For 2025, I’ve decided to keep my resolutions simple, realistic, and achievable. Here’s what I’ve set my sights on this year:
1. Get a Job Again: The hustle continues! Finding another job is at the top of my list because financial independence, no matter how small, is crucial.
2. Get Into 300 Level: Academic progress is important to me, so I’m determined to move up the ladder and continue my studies in pharmacy.
3. Start a Savings Account: This has been on my mind for a while. I want to cultivate a habit of saving, even if it’s just a little at a time.
4. Buy My Dad a Wristwatch for His Birthday: My dad has always been a rock in my life, and I’d love to show my appreciation with a thoughtful gift.
5. Buy My Mum a Designer Bag for Her Birthday: My mum deserves the world, and while I can’t give her that just yet, I’d love to make her smile with a special birthday gift.
I’ve deliberately kept my list short because I believe in setting goals that are practical and achievable. While it’s tempting to aim for the stars, I find joy in ticking off even the smallest accomplishments.
So, what about you? What are your New Year’s resolutions for 2025? Let me know in the comments—I’d love to hear your plans for the year ahead!
Here’s to a year of growth, resilience, and achieving our goals together. Cheers to 2025!
