Those Who Reported Jonathan to America Are Now Calling Trump Names – Rufai Oseni

Arise News journalist Rufai Oseni has called out the hypocrisy of some individuals who have attacked Donald Trump for designating Nigeria as a country of particular concern and accusing it of an alleged Christian genocide.
Recall that Trump had urged the Nigerian government to wipe out the alleged terrorists who are murdering “their brothers and sisters in Christ,” warning that if they failed to do so, he would “come with guns blazing” to eliminate the terrorists himself. Following Trump’s statement, many prominent figures in the Nigerian government reacted, noting first that his claim that only Christians are targeted in Nigeria was false and misleading, and secondly that Nigeria is a sovereign nation—therefore, the United States has no right whatsoever to carry out military operations within its borders.

However, Oseni described their criticism of Donald Trump as “hypocrisy.” He revealed that the same individuals who went to the United States to report former President Goodluck Jonathan during the Chibok girls saga are the ones now calling Trump various names for his comments.

He said in a post on his official X page on Saturday, November 22, 2025:

“The same people that went to report Jonathan to the Americans are calling Trump names today.

Hypocrisy has never been this good.”

According to Oseni, what is good for the goose is also good for the gander, and if the opposition at the time could report Jonathan to America, then they have no moral right to speak now that Donald Trump is attempting to interfere in Nigeria’s affairs.

Turkiye: Osimhen's Teammates Eren and Metehan Indicted In Betting Scandal

Another crisis has arisen in the Turkish Süper Lig after the Turkish Football Federation (TFF) revealed that 1,047 footballers have been involved in betting. Out of these, 47 footballers had participated in betting only once, according to the TFF.

Osimhen’s teammates Eren Elmalı and Metehan Baltacı are among those involved. Metehan is not a key player for Galatasaray, and the club’s fans have even wished for him to be dropped from the rotation, as he is believed to enjoy Galatasaray’s success without contributing a dime.

Eren Elmalı, however, became a key player for Galatasaray, making a huge contribution last year after transferring from Trabzonspor to Galatasaray during the mid-season break. He helped Galatasaray secure its third consecutive Turkish Süper Lig title, filling the club’s need for a left-back due to İsmail Jakobs’ constant injuries.

This season, Jakobs has quickly replaced Eren as a starter, especially in the UEFA Champions League. While Jakobs is solid defensively, Galatasaray fans have often remarked that Eren’s offensive contributions offer more options than Jakobs.

Elmalı played once as a left winger and scored twice at the start of the league. Eren’s offense seems less serious compared to Metehan. Firstly, neither of these two footballers had placed bets while wearing Galatasaray colors. It is said that these bets happened five years ago, when Eren made a single bet while playing in the Turkish lower leagues for Silivrispor on a team in the Bundesliga. As for Metehan, he is said to have placed 1,600 bets while playing for İstanbulspor and Eyüpspor.

Eren and Metehan have been referred to the PFDK under Article 57 of the Turkish Football Federation rules.

Both Eren, Metehan, and Galatasaray have released statements regarding the matter:

Eren stated:

> “The reason my name appears in this case is due to a betting transaction related to a team other than my own, which happened about five years ago. Since that day, I have neither placed any bets nor had the slightest connection to this matter.”

Galatasaray wrote:

> “As Galatasaray Sports Club, our stance has always been clear regarding the protection of ethical values, honesty, and fair competition in Turkish football.
As we have emphasized in our previous statements, our fight on this matter is a special issue that cannot be compromised in terms of the reliability and reputation of football.
Our club is carefully following the details of the incident and expects the process to be completed as quickly as possible so that justice can be served in the most correct way. Galatasaray, as always, stands on the side of justice, honesty, and fair competition.
The public is respectfully informed.”

Overplayed and Injured: Lamine Yamal and Nico Williams Battling Chronic Pubalgia

Three young La Liga stars — Lamine Yamal, Nico Williams, and Franco Mastantuono — are reportedly suffering from chronic pubalgia, a condition that has begun to affect their performances for their clubs. This comes as no surprise, especially in the case of Yamal, who has played an unusually high number of matches at such a young age. Continuous physical demands without adequate recovery can easily trigger this condition.
Pubalgia is a painful injury in the groin area, often caused by repetitive twisting, turning, sprinting, and sudden changes of direction — all common movements in football. It is not limited to professional athletes; anyone can develop pubalgia if their physical workload is not properly managed. When players are exposed to excessive match minutes, intense training, or insufficient rest, the risk of developing chronic groin pain increases significantly.

Surgery can be performed to correct the condition, but most players choose to manage it during the season and undergo the operation afterward. It can be controlled through low-intensity training, physiotherapy, and load management.
However, in Yamal’s case, Barcelona are one of the highest-pressing teams in Europe, meaning he is constantly required to twist, run, and turn — movements that could further worsen his condition.

Alleged Christian Genocide: Why Nigeria Was Declared a Country of Particular Concern — Should We Be Worried?

Nigeria has been declared a Country of Particular Concern (CPC), but what does this really mean for us?
Under the International Religious Freedom Act (IRFA) of 1998, the U.S., not the UN, has the authority to designate any country as a Country of Particular Concern if it targets a group of people for practicing their religion and the government is found to be involved—directly or indirectly—in such acts.

This means that if a country engages in or tolerates violence against a particular religious group, violating their freedom of association and freedom of religion, and if the government is suspected of supporting those who carry out such violence, it can be labelled a CPC.

Contrary to popular belief, this does not protect only Christians. It applies to Muslims and followers of all religions as well. For example, in 2023, China was designated a Country of Particular Concern because of its persecution and detention of Uyghur Muslims (and other Turkic-Muslim minorities) in Xinjiang, including mass internment, forced labour, and restrictions on religious practices.

However, under the IRFA, Donald Trump or any U.S. president does not have the right to invade Nigeria simply because it is designated a CPC. What the U.S. can do is impose sanctions—such as visa bans, restrictions on arms sales, and limits on foreign aid. So why is the government worried?

In my opinion, being declared a Country of Particular Concern also suggests that the government is actively involved in or tolerating religious intolerance. As a result, the U.S. can impose visa bans on high-profile government officials and even seize properties belonging to them in the U.S. if they are linked to proceeds of terrorism or human rights abuses.

What happens if the U.S. actually follows through on its threats?

Under normal circumstances, the U.S. has no legal right to invade Nigeria over religious intolerance because Nigeria is a sovereign nation. But the U.S. is a global superpower, and sometimes power speaks louder than international law. Do I think an invasion will happen? No—not only because Trump often bluffs, but also because it wouldn’t make strategic sense. Still, if it did happen, we would be stuck between the devil and the deep blue sea, because neither Trump nor this current government seems to genuinely care about the people.

So what can Tinubu do?

Naturally, the first step would be to engage in diplomatic dialogue with the U.S. But I recently discovered that Nigeria currently has no ambassadors or diplomats in many countries. Apparently, President Tinubu withdrew them when he took office and has not replaced them, nearly two years into his tenure. Perhaps he is saving those appointments as political rewards ahead of the next election.

Anyway, I hope I’ve been able to explain, not confuse, you about what the Country of Particular Concern designation really means.

“From Recovery to Red Card: Liam Delap’s Nightmare Return for Chelsea”

Liam Delap Sent Off on His Injury Return as Chelsea Defeat Wolves in Carabao Cup
Things have not been so rosy for Liam Delap since he joined Chelsea from Ipswich Town. The number 9 hasn’t really experienced much stability since his transfer to Chelsea, as he has been out with a hamstring injury.

However, Delap’s return from injury has been one of the worst possible. He came on as a substitute in Chelsea’s narrow win against Wolves in the Carabao Cup fourth round. Delap, who was subbed on in the 60th minute, picked up a second yellow card in the 86th minute and was sent off.

Delap is now set to miss Chelsea’s next Premier League game against Spurs. Many Chelsea fans have called the striker out for being undisciplined.

“Arsenal vs Atlético Madrid 4–0: Arteta Wins the Haram Ball Derby”

Arsenal has won their Champions League group-stage game against Atlético Madrid by scoring four goals in just 13 minutes. The match was highly anticipated by football fans, as both sides are known for playing a “defensive-minded” style of football, also known as haram ball. However, Mikel Arteta proved that he was more Bin Ladined than his Atlético Madrid counterpart, Diego Simeone.
According to reports, a day before the game, Atlético Madrid players were denied access to hot showers at the Emirates. Looks like Arteta’s shithousery worked wonders, because they were absolutely terrible.

Martinelli opened the scoring for Arsenal in the 51st minute, with Timber making it two in the 63rd. Then Gyökeres ended his goal drought with a brace in the 67th and 70th minutes. He was also named Man of the Match for his performance.

Guess Arteta can definitely be crowned Mr. Haram. I mean, there was absolutely no way Arsenal — a team with up to eight solid defenders — weren’t going to haram their way to victory. One can safely conclude that if everything were up to Arteta, he’d probably buy 11 defenders as players. But I guess he isn’t totally in charge, because the people around him definitely understand that he’s not entirely normal — so impulsive!

20.10.20 — The Day Nigeria Died #EndSARS

Some of us may argue that Nigeria died years ago, long before the Lekki Toll Gate incident — and that the incident was simply the burial of an already dead country. However, the death of the nation became manifest on 20-10-2020, when the Nigerian Army opened live ammunition on innocent young people whose only “crime” was a dream — a dream of a better future, a future their forefathers once had access to.

Simple people with simple dreams, carrying the flag of our country — the green, white, green, a symbol of hope — had their blood stain that flag. A symbol we should call our honour is now stained with the blood of our people.
That was the day the country, and everything about it, collapsed. They didn’t care that the people gunned down were singing a song of unity — the national anthem — a song that turned into a dirge when it became the last words of a people who had carried the fire of hope and faith.

Till today, no one knows the shooters.
There is still no justice for the End SARS victims.

20-10-20
We will never forget.
We will never forgive.
Who gave the order?

World Cup: No Agenda Fashioned Against Victor Osimhen Shall Prosper

Nigeria has qualified for the African playoffs through Victor Osimhen’s hat-trick. While we would have gotten a direct qualification if we had played the way we played against Benin Republic in other matches, I am still very happy that there is still hope. Though, as they say, it’s still the hope that kills.
However, what’s paining me is how Nigerians tried to slander Victor Osimhen for Nigeria almost not making the cut for the World Cup. According to them, he is the star player and he always gets angry at his teammates after any match that doesn’t go their way, so they’re trying to create an agenda. These guys are forgetting that Victor only played 5 games—sorry, 4 and a half games—because he was subbed off early with an injury against Rwanda.

In all the games he played, he had a goal contribution. Even in the Zimbabwe match we drew, it was after he was subbed off—just 5 minutes after—that captain Ekong, senior man Ndidi, and that werey Nwabali couldn’t defend the backline. But Victor shouldn’t be angry, right? If only we had won that match, we would have gotten direct qualification. But it’s okay; at least we still have a chance.

Victor has 7 goal contributions in 4 and a half games—6 goals and 1 assist—yet you say he’s not world-class? He is exactly what you call him: Jagun Jagun Turkey ooh, PJ Mask! He keeps delivering. He has 29 goals and 12 assists in 44 games for Nigeria, so better put some respect on his name.

I like the fact that he silenced all his haters by even opening the scoring against Benin Republic in the 3rd minute. Now, all we have to do is play like this in our other games, and I promise you there’s no way we won’t qualify.

Another thing—God bless our coach, Eric Chelle.

Super Eagles Forced to Make Emergency Landing in Angola After Plane Suffers Cracked Windscreen

According to a report by The Punch, the Super Eagles are currently stuck in Angola after being forced to make an emergency landing. The chartered Value Jet aircraft carrying the Super Eagles reportedly suffered a cracked windscreen shortly after takeoff from Luanda, Angola, where it had stopped to refuel.
Fortunately, all the players are safe, thanks to the professionalism of the pilot who landed the jet safely.

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), in a statement, revealed that the same plane had earlier conveyed some officials to Polokwane on Friday, where the match against Lesotho was played. However, while carrying the Super Eagles back to Nigeria, it suddenly developed a cracked windscreen.

The statement read in part:

“However, after a routine refueling stop in Luanda, Angola (where the plane also stopped to refuel on Thursday night, and where the same plane had stopped to refuel to and from Bloemfontein in South Africa for the Matchday 8 encounter between the Super Eagles and the Bafana Bafana last month), the aircraft suffered a cracked windscreen mid-air after takeoff, and the pilot did well to guide the airplane safely back to the airport in Luanda.”

The NFF also emphasized that it is working with the Minister of Transport, the Chief of Staff to the President, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs to secure the necessary landing permit for another aircraft to pick up the Super Eagles and fly them safely to Lagos, Nigeria, before heading to Uyo.

The Super Eagles are scheduled to play their last World Cup qualifier on Tuesday, October 14th, against Benin Republic in Uyo. They must secure a convincing win to qualify directly for the World Cup if South Africa fails to beat Rwanda, or settle for a playoff spot if South Africa wins.

Nigeria To World Cup: It’s The Hope That Kills

On October 14th, I’m going to be off the Internet. Don’t ask me why.
Okay, ask me why.

The Super Eagles are playing football. Apparently, Nigeria is set to play its last World Cup qualifier against Benin Republic in Uyo — and we need a win to secure first position if South Africa loses, or at least a playoff spot if we beat Benin.
Now, you might wonder why I want to disappear from the Internet that day. Simple: the Super Eagles are the kings of disappointment.

First of all, we shouldn’t even be in this situation. What exactly was the plan? To struggle for qualification like amateurs? And then there’s the painful truth: the Super Eagles always disappoint when it matters most.

Just look at AFCON 2024 — wahala talah! Nobody expected Nigeria to even cross the group stage with that confused tiki-taka football, yet somehow we reached the finals. And then, as usual, we bottled it against Ivory Coast — the same team we had beaten 2–0 in the group stage.

What still pains me is Ola Aina’s confession after the final — that he played with a Grade 2 hamstring injury. Nigerians were all over social media calling him “patriotic” and “selfless.” Abeg, that wasn’t patriotism. That was stupidity — foolish and selfish behaviour. Why didn’t you say you couldn’t play? Both goals we conceded came from his side.

As for this World Cup qualification, I had already given up hope. The way these players have been performing, it’s like they’re on a playground. But somehow, despite everything — the heartbreak, the trauma, the disappointment — there’s still that tiny flicker of hope in me.

And you know the saying: it’s the hope that kills.

Because the Super Eagles have this insane habit — they give you hope on a platter of gold today, and snatch it away the next day.

Oh, and by the way — that Uyo Stadium is cursed.

Even If Nigeria Qualifies by Mistake, Ibrahim Gusau Still Needs to Step Down

If Nigeria doesn’t qualify — sorry, when Nigeria doesn’t qualify — for the World Cup, heads need to roll. People need to resign, and the first person that should heed the call is the NFF President, Ibrahim Gusau, who has achieved nothing since he took office. Only the devil — sorry, God — knows how he won the election to lead the NFF after not achieving anything during his years as the head of the Zamfara FA.

I mean, this is someone who made our U-20s play like they hadn’t kicked a ball in their lives. We all know that Nigeria is on the verge of missing another World Cup, though permutations and calculations might still find a way to help us finish among the best second-placed teams. However, my point is that when the Super Eagles draw against Lesotho today, everybody’s eyes will clear.

But if the Eagles win their remaining matches with a very good goal difference — even if South Africa don’t drop points — Nigeria still has a chance to qualify. This is because, among the second-ranked teams, and due to Eritrea’s withdrawal from the qualifiers, Group E has only five teams. To balance this, CAF decided that the games against the bottom teams in each group would not count.

For this to favor Nigeria, we have to pray that Zimbabwe, who haven’t won any of their games, finish bottom. This is because we only managed two draws against Zimbabwe, which means we’d lose just two points. Meanwhile, other second-placed teams in different groups would be deducted more points because they won their matches against the bottom-placed teams.

However, if we want direct qualification, we have to pray that Zimbabwe beat South Africa, who are on 14 points after being docked three points for fielding an ineligible player against Lesotho.

Now, we need to win our game against Lesotho but also pray they don’t finish bottom. In fact, even if we qualify by mistake — maybe God wants to punish South Africa for something — Ibrahim Gusau still needs to step down, first for making me start learning Further Maths that I didn’t even do in secondary school.
What pains me most is the fact that he has the effrontery to be gunning for a second term despite his glaring failure.

Celebrate Your Small Wins — They Mean More Than You Think

It's the Little Things That Matter"

It’s very important to celebrate your small wins. Be proud of the little things you’ve achieved — they matter more than you think.

Many people overexert themselves because they feel they haven’t achieved anything big yet. But why not celebrate the little things you’ve accomplished first? I’ll always be a fan of celebrating your wins, no matter how small they are. Sometimes, that celebration can be as simple as taking a break after hitting a goal — telling yourself, “This rest is my reward for doing that thing.”

For example, when I was traveling with my dad and he needed a transfer of ₦6,000, I was so happy that I could help. I even talked about it for days, feeling proud that I had achieved something. To some people, ₦6,000 might seem like nothing, but for me, being able to spare that money meant a lot.

First, considering my situation as a Nigerian student in this economy, and second, knowing that I worked hard for every dime of that ₦6,000 — why shouldn’t I be proud of myself?

Sometimes, even the people around you can make you feel like you haven’t done enough. And while it’s good to aim high and be ambitious, it’s also important to pause and say, “Damn, I’ve actually done something good — something to be proud of.”

Because truly, it’s the little things that matter. Be proud of yourself. 🌱

Barcelona vs Sevilla 4–1: Barcelona Suffers Humiliating Defeat Before International Break

Barcelona now has back-to-back losses after being thrashed 4–1 by Sevilla in their La Liga match before the international break. This disappointing result comes after their loss to PSG in the Champions League.
A penalty was awarded to Sevilla early on after Araújo fouled a player, and Alexis Sánchez calmly stepped up to slot it in in the 13th minute. Isaac Romero doubled the lead in the 37th minute, while Marcus Rashford — the English winger on loan from Manchester United — pulled one back just before half-time. He scored his first goal in a Barcelona jersey after providing several assists in earlier matches.
Barcelona had some chances to at least equalize before two more goals were scored against them. This included a penalty, which Robert Lewandowski sent into the sky.

Barcelona were also without key players like Raphinha, John Garcia, and Lamine Yamal, whose groin injury was aggravated during the UCL match against PSG. José Carmona added another goal in the 90th minute, while Nigerian international Akor Adams made it 4–1 in the 90+5th minute. Adams also recently earned his first national team call-up.

After the match, Barcelona coach Hansi Flick noted that the team has to use the humiliating defeat as inspiration for future matches.

Barcelona are now in second place on the La Liga table, only a few points behind Real Madrid, despite Madrid also dropping points by losing to Atlético Madrid before their UCL game. We can definitely say that El Clásico will determine who tops the table.

A big positive to take from the match is Marcus Rashford’s form for Barcelona. He even won Man of the Match despite his team losing to Sevilla. He was Barcelona’s most promising player, unlike Lewandowski, who sent all his shots in the match straight to the moon. Even Sofascore was generous, giving him a 5.00 rating.

Nigeria at 65: A Nation in Bondage, Not True Independence

Nigeria is 65 — a truly foolish nation. Because, honestly, what is there to celebrate? What independence do we really have?

Someone once said that every October 1st, there must be rainfall, a sign that heaven itself laughs at what a joke of a nation we have become. What exactly are we celebrating? Are we not a people in chains? Are we not slaves to those in power? Are we not slaves to a broken healthcare system? Most importantly, are we not slaves to poverty, which our leaders have imposed upon us?
Just a few days ago in Kwara State, bandits attacked and killed innocent people. A man was brutalized by the police. The October 20, 2020 Lekki Toll Gate shooting remains unaccounted for, with no justice in sight. And yet, we are expected to celebrate “Independence.”

True independence is celebrated by people who are genuinely free, not by those chained and dependent on handouts from their leaders to survive. A people suppressed and oppressed from speaking up cannot claim to be independent.

What exactly is independence? It means being free. It means being self-reliant. So we must ask ourselves: are we truly free? Our wings have been vandalized and clipped by our fellow black leaders in power, so much so that even our Nigerian Super Eagles can no longer soar.

But sure, wave the flag and sing the national anthem—on an empty stomach.

The only Nigerians who can boast of some form of freedom are those in the diaspora. That’s why you see them in places like New York’s Times Square or London—not celebrating Nigeria’s independence, but their independence from Nigeria.

Nigeria at 65 is not free. It is in bondage. A nation where its citizens remain enslaved by their own leaders.

Somtochukwu Maduagwu Murder: Even the Rich Aren’t Safe in Nigeria

Arise News Correspondent Somtochukwu Maduagwu Killed in Abuja Robbery — A Stark Reminder That No One Is Truly Safe

Arise News has announced the tragic death of Somtochukwu Christelle Maduagwu, a 29-year-old correspondent, producer, and lawyer, who was killed during an armed robbery at her residence in Katampe, Abuja.

This heartbreaking incident highlights a painful reality: in Nigeria, whether you are rich or poor, safety is not guaranteed.

We have seen similar tragedies before. For instance, the case of Junior Pope, the Nollywood actor who died after a boat accident in 2024, exposed the weaknesses of Nigeria’s emergency and safety systems. His death wasn’t due to a lack of money but due to systemic failures.

Somtochukwu’s killing took place in Katampe, one of Abuja’s upscale areas, underscoring the fact that even living in wealthy neighborhoods does not shield anyone from insecurity.

Nigeria’s security challenges affect everyone — money alone can’t guarantee protection. This tragedy is yet another reminder of the urgent need for stronger security measures and functional emergency response systems.

Lessons From Church: Dancing Away Burdens and Learning Patience

The Beauty of Being in Church

There is something beautiful about being in church. Your burdens and little problems are forgotten — especially when you dance your problems away.
But coming to church isn't just about praising God. I'm not saying that praising God is the wrong idea or anything; in fact, it's one of the main ideologies.

Aside from that, when you come to church, you also come to learn. Coming to church means learning new things in a big fellowship.

---

📖 The Little Things Matter

Most churches simply open the Bible and go — they take one or two scriptures and move on, thinking they have finished the service. I am not writing this to criticize anyone, and I don’t intend to. But I believe it’s the little things that matter.

Honestly, it feels so refreshing after our Sunday service in church — learning new things.

---

Two Sundays ago, we had a talk on the Rhesus factor, and I was surprised that many didn’t know about it. My knowledge about the Rhesus factor came a few weeks earlier in school.

Rhesus factor and knowledge about it are very important because it affects pregnancy.

⏳ Waiting With Patience

This Sunday, we learnt about “waiting with patience.” For me, it wasn’t really about the topic itself but the fact that I learnt something new.

It was about working towards what you want to achieve with faith. Don’t wait to get it before you start preparing.

Someone gave an example of a person who got a job abroad but couldn’t go because he didn’t have an international passport. He lost the opportunity despite waiting because he wasn’t prepared.

---

🙏 Preparation and Patience

It’s not just about waiting on the Lord, but about how prepared you are when the thing you are praying for finally comes.

Joseph didn’t wake up one day and become a prime minister — he was prepared and edified by God.

David didn’t suddenly become king even after killing Goliath; he led small crowds before God entrusted him to lead many.

Sometimes it’s not just about waiting with patience, but about how prepared you are. Sometimes God withholds our miracles because we’re not prepared to receive them.

Billy Vigar’s Death: FIFA’s Failure to Protect Players From Concrete Wall Collisions

Former Arsenal academy player Billy Vigar has died while playing for Chichester United, as confirmed by the club. The 21-year-old succumbed to severe head trauma after colliding with a concrete wall. He was placed in an emergency induced coma but sadly passed away just a few days later.

While the thoughts of everyone in the world are with Vigar and his family, Billy’s death must also be seen as part of a broader failure — not just by FIFA but by the entire football world — to ensure the safety of footballers.

Vigar collided with a concrete wall used to hold an advertising board which, according to reports, was positioned too close to the pitch. First and foremost, a concrete wall should be nowhere near a football pitch. Concrete walls may be used for crowd control or structural purposes, but everyone knows their main function today is to hold advertising boards. So why should people lose their lives simply because of an advertising board?

When running — and footballers do run — it is difficult to slow momentum. It’s just like driving a car at high speed: if you suddenly slam the brakes, the car may somersault or crash. In the same way, when concrete walls are placed too close to the pitch, footballers often cannot slow down in time, leading to collisions.

FIFA does have regulations on the distance between concrete walls and the pitch, recommending 3–6 metres of clearance. However, FIFA has done little to enforce its own rules, choosing instead to function mainly as a revenue-generating body. In high-tier competitions where the world is watching, walls and advertising boards are kept at a safe distance. But in lower-tier leagues, dangerous walls continue to be placed right next to the pitch.

Vigar’s death is not the first to occur under such circumstances. In 2008, Croatian footballer Hrvoje Ćustić of NK Zadar died in hospital after colliding with a concrete wall. In 2015, Emanuel Ortega, playing in Argentina’s fifth tier, died after striking a wall just one metre from the touchline. More recently, in 2022, Alex Fletcher, while playing for Bath City, sustained a severe head injury from a wall collision that eventually forced him into retirement.

The truth is, no one seems to care enough about the safety of these players. To many fans, footballers earn large sums of money, so they should “just go out and play.” But that mindset ignores the risks. It is sad that FIFA, while raising awareness about concussions, has failed to address one of the main causes of such injuries — unsafe stadium design.

And to the players: no one will protect you but yourselves. Stop playing on unsafe pitches. Because if you die, people’s thoughts will be with your family for a few days — and then life simply goes on.

Victor Osimhen Returns to Galatasaray Squad After Injury Ahead of Liverpool Clash

Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen has returned to the Galatasaray squad after missing nearly three weeks and three matches due to an ankle strain he picked up from a rough tackle in Nigeria’s World Cup qualifiers against Rwanda. The Nigerian star, who is Turkey’s most expensive signing, was forced to sit out key fixtures, including their UCL opener against Frankfurt, where they were thrashed 5-1.

According to Galatasaray coach Okan Buruk, Osimhen is expected to be fully ready for the Liverpool match. Turkish journalist Yakup Cinar also reported that he is likely to get some minutes in the Alanyaspor match tomorrow. However, in the crucial UCL game against Liverpool—after their heavy loss without him—he is expected to be in the starting XI, pending any late changes.Ad

This news is seen as a major boost for Galatasaray fans, many of whom have questioned why their €75m record signing has yet to take the field since sustaining the injury with the national team. Some even criticized the decision to release their most expensive player—and the most expensive signing in Turkish league history—for international duty, only for him to return injured.

In addition, there was a clear contrast between the diagnosis of the Super Eagles’ doctors and that of the Galatasaray medical staff. While the national team doctors diagnosed him with a shin bruise, Galatasaray’s medical team confirmed it was an ankle strain, which kept him out for about 13 days.

The Power of PR: How Yamal Beat Raphinha to Second Place in the Ballon d’Or

Lamine Yamal finished second in the Ballon d'Or ahead of his Barcelona teammate Raphinha. While no one is shocked — after all, many people were gunning for Yamal to win over Ousmane Dembélé — looking at it objectively, it was Barcelona’s PR that not only propelled Yamal to second but also pushed Raphinha down the rankings. After all, Raphinha was once a favorite to win the Ballon d'Or, but “Mr. 9 La Liga goals from La Masia” received the biggest PR push. And doesn’t it make sense for an academy kid to win the Ballon d'Or? I mean, Michael Olise had a great season and was placed at number 30 simply because of a lack of PR. So I maintain that PR is what pushed Yamal to the top.

#OkanBurukIstifa Trends as Galatasaray Fans Demand Coach’s Resignation After Frankfurt Humiliation

Galatasaray fans are trending the hashtag #OkanBurukIstifa, which when translated into Turkish means Okan Buruk resign. The fans of Turkey’s biggest and most successful club, Galatasaray, are now calling for coach Okan Buruk’s resignation after taking a beating from Frankfurt in their UCL opener.
The problem didn’t just start today, with fans who are not satisfied with just winning in the league. Since coach Okan took over, Galatasaray has been the most successful team in the Turkish Super Lig, winning three consecutive titles and even almost going unbeaten in the last one. However, in Europe, it has been a different story.

Fans aren’t satisfied, especially when the management promised a great European campaign with the tag #HedefAvrupa. Galatasaray is the Turkish team that has spent the most on transfer fees, though on fewer players. The truth, in my opinion, is that Galatasaray prioritized quality over quantity. After all, isn’t it Fenerbahce, who replaced their entire starting XI, that almost lost to Alanyaspor? Didn’t Beşiktaş, who bought every player they could, just lose to Göztepe? So what seems to be the problem? After all, last year Galatasaray beat Tottenham, the reigning Europa League champions, but bent over for teams like Malmö and Dynamo Kiev.
A Galatasaray fan said: “I won’t be surprised if we have a higher chance of beating Liverpool than Bodo/Glimt. For years we have bent over for village teams. It is a psychological problem.”

Another accused the coach of being successful in Turkey only because he is a Turkish coach and understands only the Turkish league. However, others are calling for coach Okan’s resignation, claiming that with this squad they can win the league without any coach. Okan was compared with coach Fatih Terim, the most successful coach in Turkey and Galatasaray’s history, who won the Europa League and Super Cup with Okan Buruk as part of his squad. One fan said: “Fatih Terim was given a budget of £30m, yet he came back without conceding a goal against Barcelona with a squad of lower quality than the present GS squad. Okan Buruk was given £150m, yet he ate five from Frankfurt.”

Another added: “If coach Okan was given Fatih Terim’s squad, he would have sent us into relegation. #OkanBurukIstifa.”
Others have called for the resignation of the management and even the technical staff, noting that the training is not good enough.

“How can Gabriel Sara, who came to us scoring 14 goals and 13 assists in Norwich City, suddenly become trash? Icardi is obese and the technical staff is not doing anything about it. Is there something wrong with our training? How can Lemina, who tore apart the Fenerbahce match by himself when he came, suddenly not run anymore? All of them need to resign,” one angry fan wrote.
However, some are drawing conclusions from the Frankfurt match, noting that they started well but lost along the line due to individual mistakes. Some have criticized the captain at that time, Yunus Akgün, for his selfishness and repeatedly losing the ball.

One wrote: “Yunus Akgün lost the ball and was making gestures to Ilkay instead of passing the ball. This is Galatasaray, this is not your father’s farm, man. You can’t lose the ball and be making gestures to stars like Ilkay. Who the hell are you?”

Another wrote about Yunus: “Yunus, what the hell was that, man? Why can’t you pass the ball? If you keep being selfish with the ball, you will be benched.”

Another questioned the coach’s logic in the second half when subbing in Icardi for Lemina:

“We are losing 3-1. What does coach Okan do? He empties the midfield, bringing in an obese guy (Icardi) and removing Lemina. After Icardi came, we conceded 2 more.”

Another spoke about Galatasaray’s fighting spirit: “When we conceded a goal, I saw the despair on the faces of the players. You concede a goal and you lose the will to fight?”

So, what really led to Galatasaray’s loss?
Was it Osimhen’s absence, the team’s stupidity, or the coach’s technical ability?
